Meet log: Friday, February 10 – Saturday, February 11 – 6-0, gold in 72 kg weight class, named Most Outstanding Male Wrestler at CW Wrestling Championships in Saskatoon.

Third-year University of Alberta Golden Bears wrestler Marcus Peterson is the Canada West Male First Star of the Week after helping the No. 2-ranked Bears capture their fourth conference title in five seasons this past weekend in Saskatoon.

Peterson captured the gold medal in the 72 kg weight class on Saturday, finishing with a perfect 6-0 record, and was one of seven Bears to finish on the podium this past weekend. Peterson’s efforts also earned him the Canada West Outstanding Male Wrestler award. He is one of 12 Golden Bears who qualified for the national championship with their performances this week. 

The conference championship is the Bears fourth in five seasons after winning three-straight Canada West banners from 2013-2015. 

The second-ranked Golden Bears will finish their varsity season in two weeks, as they head to the U SPORTS Wrestling National Championships, Feb. 24-26 at the University of Winnipeg.
