CIS TOP TEN TUESDAY (#10)

Laval volleyball, UBC swimming climb to the top

Nov. 4, 2014

OTTAWA (CIS) – Three new teams moved to top of CIS national rankings this week, including theLaval Rouge et Or, who find themselves in a tie for No. 1 with the Alberta Pandas in women’s volleyball, as well as the UBC Thunderbirds, who take the lead in both women’s and men’s swimming.

In women’s volleyball, Laval is off to a 5-0 start in RSEQ league play, including a four-set win over archrival Montreal on Saturday. The Rouge et Or had last been ranked No. 1 at the start of the 2010-11 campaign, when they led the first four coaches’ polls.

In women’s swimming, the reigning three-time CIS champion Thunderbirds are back in a familiar position, having led all 12 weekly rankings last season. On the men’s side, UBC overtakes defending national champion Toronto in the top 10 for the first time since last January.

In other CIS sports, Windsor (women’s basketball), Carleton (men’s basketball), Guelph (women’s & men’s cross country), McGill (women’s hockey) and Alberta (men’s hockey & men’s volleyball) all hold on to the pole position.
