The defending University Cup champion Alberta Golden Bears are the No. 1 ranked team in CIS men's hockey.

Alberta, who split their opening weekend series with the Lethbridge Pronghorns skating to a 2-0 win Friday and 3-2 2OT loss Saturday, opened the poll the top ranked team for the third consecutive season.

It was a close race for No. 1 in the poll, as the UNB Varsity Reds earned an identical 150 points, with Alberta earning the edge thanks to the higher number of first place votes.

Also inside the men's top 10 from Canada West are the Saskatchewan Huskies, coming in at No. 5, and the Calgary Dinos at No. 9. Saskatchewan opened the season with a sweep of the Dinos, skating to narrow one-goal victories, including a 6-5 OT win opening night.

On the women's side, just a pair of Canada West teams sit inside the top 10, with the 4-0-0 Lethbridge Pronghorns the highest ranked conference team, coming in at No.5.

Lethbridge marched into Edmonton over the weekend and picked up a pair of wins over the defending conference champion Alberta Pandas, who are the other ranked team from Canada West at No. 8.

Both the men and women return to the ice this weekend for conference action, with every game available live on Canadawest.tv
