Hockey CIS Top 10: Huskies almost top dogs, 'Horns hold steady

Evan Daum, Canada West Communications

The Saskatchewan Huskies perfect start to the Canada West men's hockey season has earned the attention of national voters, as the Huskies are now the No. 2-ranked team in CIS, behind only the UNB Varsity Reds.

Saskatchewan earned the second place inside the CIS top 10 released Tuesday, taking over from Alberta as the top Canada West team in the poll, after the Bears split a weekend series with the Mount Royal Cougars on the weekend and fell from No. 1 to No.3 in the poll.

The Huskies sit atop the Canada West standings with 12 points through three weeks, two points up on the No. 10-ranked UBC Thunderbirds.

UNB is now the frontrunner inside the top 10, taking over for Alberta, who downed the V-Reds in the University Cup final last season in Halifax.

Inside the women's top 10, the Lethbridge Pronghorns remain Canada West's top team at No. 4 in the nation. The 'Horns won both their games this past weekend against Calgary to improve to 7-1-0 on the season.

Also inside the women's top 10 from Canada West is Saskatchewan - the lone team to have beaten Lethbridge this season - at No. 9 and Alberta at No. 10.
