EDMONTON – With just over two months remaining in the Canada West schedule, the 2017-18 conference season has already been a record-setter for Canada West TV.
The exclusive streaming home for conference events, Canada West TV enjoyed its strongest fall semester in terms of sales since the conference moved to a full pay-per-view model prior to the 2015-16 season. Sales for the current season have already surpassed those from the entirety of the 2016-17 season, as fans from Canada West’s 17 member institutions have embraced the new Canada West TV, powered by Yare Media.
As has been the case the last two seasons, all revenues from Canada West TV will be reinvested by both the conference and members into offsetting production costs, enhancing webcasts, and expanding the sports offered on Canada West TV.
Launched in August of this past season as part of the conference’s rebrand, the new Canada West TV portal has delivered on its promise to provide an enhanced viewing experience, with video being delivered using HTML5 technology in adaptive bitrate that has automatically provided users with the optimal resolution for their device and internet connectivity. Simply put, Canada West TV has provided a superior viewing experience without buffering thanks to the conference’s partnership with Yare Media.
The portal’s improved quality has led to increased viewership for many Canada West events this season, including the 2017 Hardy Cup Playoffs. The conference’s three football playoff games on Canada West TV combined for more than 4,000 views, nearly tripling the viewership of the 2016 conference football playoffs.
Alberta and Calgary’s semifinal game, along with UBC and Calgary in the 81st Hardy Cup provided strong numbers, with more than 1,500 views each. These totals make them the most-viewed games on Canada West TV over the last three seasons. The two games combined for more than 3,100 viewing hours, as fans were locked to their device to catch the Bears return to the post-season and Calgary’s thrilling last second win over UBC in the Hardy Cup.
