Calgary – In the rubber match of the weekend series, Mount Royal won in dramatic fashion 2-1 in a shootout.

The first period saw both squads throw caution to the wind. The wide-open play spawned a number of scoring chances and some tense moments for the 100 plus fans in attendance.

Mount Royal ran into penalty trouble early in the game drawing three minors in the first period. Fortunately for the Cougars, rookie netminder Emma Pincott was un-phased by the barrage. Pincott made 15 saves in the first, including a point blank glove save at the end of a power play to keep the game scoreless.

As the second period wore on, the Cougars began to find their groove and began to push the Dinos back on their heels. Fifth year captain, Tanika Dawson had a beautiful end-to-end rush halfway through the period but Dino's goalie Hayley Dowling shut the door. The Cougars controlled the pace much of the second period and outshot the Dinos 9-3. Despite their efforts, the Cougars and Dinos remained entrenched in a scoreless tie.

Heather Berzins scored at the 12:00 minute mark to deflate the home crowd. Less than a minute and a half later the Cougars were buzzing deep in the Dinos zone. During a scrum behind the net the puck squirted out in front of the net. Janessa Jenkins was first on the spot and buried it tying the game and ultimately sending it to overtime.

The game endured two overtimes before heading to a shootout.

The shootout went to a fifth shooter and once again Janessa Jenkins was the hero, ripping a shot past Dowling. Emma Pincott then promptly stoned Kate Lumley and the Cougars won the shootout and the game 2-1.

"After a shaky start we found our legs," said Cougar's Head Coach Scott Rivett. "Once we got going we gained confidence and proved we could play with them."

The Cougars will host UBC next weekend at the Flames Community Arenas. Calgary will hit the road to begin a home and home series with Lethbridge beginning Friday night.
