On the afternoon of Sunday October 26, 2014, the Manitoba Bisons women's hockey team beat the Lethbridge Pronghorns 5-3 at Wayne Fleming Arena.
With the victory Manitoba improves it's record to 6-1-1, while Lethbridge falls to 1-7-0
Eight minuets into the first period, first year forward Lauryn Keen scored to give the home team an early lead. The Bisons scored again when second year forward Alana Serhan deflected, fifth year defenseman Michelle Pawluk's, shot past visiting goalie Crystal Patterson. Bisons goalie Amanda Schubert was unbeaten in the first, making nine stops.
Three minuets into the second period, rookie forward Alanna Sharman scored on the power play to give the home team a three-goal lead. Lethbridge made it a two-goal game, when fourth year forward Kristen Reeves put a rebound past Schubert. Mantioba regained their three-goal lead when Keen scored her second of the game on the breakaway.
The Pronghorns would make the score 4-2, when third year forward Janae Culp scored eight minuets into the third period. Later in the third, Rookie forward Delaney Duchek beat Schubert with a backhand to make it a one-goal game. Less than a minuet later Serhan would score her second of the game to make the score 5-3.
Manitoba was 1/3 on the power play while Lethbridge was 0/2.
It wasn't the prettiest game in the third period, said Manitoba coach Jon Rempel, "but I like the fact that we were able to push back after that third goal. We did a good job getting stuff to the net today."
The Bisons won both games in the series this weekend against the Pronghorns. Manitoba is back in action on Friday November 7, when they visit the University of Alberta. Lethbridge is also back in action on November 7, when they visit the University of Regina.
