FOUR UNANSWERED GOALS LEADS HUSKIES TO WIN

Four unanswered goals led the No. 9 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies to a 4-2 win over the visiting Mount Royal University Cougars Friday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.

Down 2-0 late in the second frame, reigning CIS Rookie of the Year Kaitlin Willoughby scored twice, second-year forward Kennedy Harris and fourth-year defenceman Brooke Mutch each tallied to secure the 4-2 Saskatchewan win.

With the win, the Huskies improve to 10-3-2, while Mount Royal drops to 2-10-3.

Mount Royal's Mairi Sorensen opened the scoring at 9:35 in the first period on a shot from the point that hit Huskie netminder Cassidy Hendricks' glove and flipped into the net. Maggie Shykula-Ross gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead at 11:06 beat Hendricks' blocker side.

Willoughby cut the Cougars' lead in half with just 1:14 left in the second period on quick play through the middle crossing up Mount Royal goalie Emma Pincott. She added the game-tying goal at 6:04 in the third period on a shot from the right face off circle that hit the cross bar and fell in the net.

Harris' game-winning goal came at 10:31. Willoughby sent a pass to the corner of the net and Harris was able to get her stick on it to beat Pincott. Mutch scored the insurance goal for Saskatchewan on a scramble in front of the net.

Hendricks made 15 saves in the win for Saskatchewan, while Pincott stopped 16 for the T-Birds.

The two teams will battle again Saturday night in Rutherford Rink. Puck drop is 7 p.m. and can be viewed on canadawest.tv
