CALGARY - The Mount Royal Cougars lost 5-0 to the University of Alberta Pandas breaking their two game winning streak. Jess Ross made 22 saves, but it just wasn't enough to hold off the Pandas' potent attack.
The first period started off slow, it wasn't until 11:47 mark that the first goal of the game was scored by the Pandas. Hannah Mousek and Tess Houston set up Natasha Steblin to give the Pandas a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.
Jessica Kampjes scored an unassisted goal 4:29 into the second period to give the Pandas some insurance.
Amy Helfrich then set up Captain Kayla Lavallee who buried it in the top right corner, past Ross, just 67 seconds later.
Tess Houston and Alison Campbell each scored to close out a four goal period for Alberta.
Emma Pincott entered the game in goal for the Cougars in the third period and the Cougars seemed to rally around their rookie netminder. However the damage had already been done and the Cougars fell 5-0 to the second place Pandas.
With the win Alberta improves to 12-3-5-1, second in the Canada West standings, while Mount Royal drops to 3-1-13-3.
Tomorrow night both teams will be back at it again in Edmonton. Puck drop at Clare Drake Arena is slated for 6 p.m.
