COUGARS WIN LAST HOME GAME OF THE SEASON

CALGARY- The Mount Royal Cougars won 2-1 over the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns in the second overtime period. Reanna Arnold scored the double-OT winner and Captain Tanika Dawson who scored in her final home game. Jess Ross made 37 of 38 saves en route to the victory.

Before the game, the Cougars honoured their two fifth year grads, Taralynn Suzuki and Tanika Dawson. Both players have spent their entire five-year career with Mount Royal.

The teams played a cautious first period, which yielded few scoring chances. After the first period, MRU and Lethbridge were tied at zero.

The second period was relatively uneventful as until the 19:10 mark. Cougars Tanika Dawson ended her career at Flames Community arenas in style sneaking one by Crystal Patterson to give MRU the lead. The Cougars took that 1-0 lead into the dressing room after two.

With their goaltender pulled, the Pronghorns worked the puck around 6 on 5. Kirsten Reeves was able to beat Ross on a goal from Lenstra and Spence to tie the game and send it to overtime.

In overtime, Taralynn Suzuki had a chance to end it in her final game. The fifth year sniper was awarded a penalty shot but Patterson shut the door and a second overtime period was need.

The game looked destined for a shootout until 49.8 seconds left in the second overtime. On a great pass from Sydney Laurin, Reanna Arnold buried the game winner to send Dawson and Suzuki out in style.

MRU improves to 4-2-16-5 on the year. Lethbridge suffers their first OT loss and drop to 5-0-21-1.

Both teams will play their final games of the regular season tomorrow night in Lethbridge. Puck drop goes at 7 p.m.
