CALGARY – Audrey Buston scored twice on Thursday night including the game winner in the second overtime to lead the Dinos past the Cougars at Flames Community Arenas. Rachel Paul also scored for the Dinos while Reanna Arnold and Sarah Weninger each scored for the Cougars.

The Cougars and Dinos came out of the gates flying as both sides searched for their first victory of the season. It was the Cougars who controlled much of the pace early on, outshooting the Dinos 6-1 in the first nine minutes.

On the Cougars' sixth shot they finally solved Hayley Dowling. Talia Terry did some digging in the corner and got the puck to Reanna Arnold who was wide open in the slot. Arnold grabbed the puck and slung it between Dowling's legs for the first goal of the game.

The Dinos would get it back less than eight minutes later. The puck came to Rachel Paul at the side of the net and she buried it shortside on Emma Pincott to square the match.

Early in the second period the Cougars restored the lead. After all three forwards were waived from the draw, defenceman Shawni Rodeback took the faceoff. She tied up the Dinos center and let Sarah Weninger get through. Weninger shot the puck at a defender but quickly grabbed it back. She cut to the net, waited for Dowling to open up and slid it five hole.

The Cougars carried the lead into the third period and looked determined to earn their first points of the season. The Dinos had their chances as the Cougars' penalty troubles began to mount.

At the halfway point of the period, Shawni Rodeback took a penalty putting the Dinos back on the power play. Russian Olympian Sasha Vafina had a golden opportunity alone in the slot but Emma Pincott robbed her with a brilliant blocker save.

Shortly after the power play expired the Cougars got sloppy in their own zone and turned the puck over. The Dinos took advantage of a missed coverage down low and Audrey Buston tied the game up at two.

Overtime was needed to settle first cross-town battle of the season. Sarah Weninger nearly ended the game on a superb end to end rush. She cut hard to the net but ran over Hayley Dowling in the process drawing a penalty.

The Dinos took to the power play but were unable to get a quality scoring chance. The tired power play unit couldn't contain the Cougars at the end of the penalty and eventually got a penalty of their own.

With Audrey Buston in the box, Mount Royal set up 4-on-3. The Cougars pressured the Dinos until the last buzzer of the first overtime but couldn't solve Dowling.

Mount Royal started the second, 3-on-3 overtime, with 35 seconds left on the power play. The Dinos managed to kill it off, sending it back to 3-on-3.

The Dinos dominated the final minutes of the second overtime, swarming the Cougars everywhere they went. Dinos captain Megan Grenon stole the puck in the slot and ripped one past Pincott and off the post. The puck lay right on the goal line until Audrey Buston were there to bang home the winner.

Calgary improves to 0-3-1-1 with the victory while the Cougars fall to last place with a record of 0-4-0-1.

The weekend series shifts to Father David Bauer Arena tomorrow evening. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm
