CALGARY –Kennedy Ganser scored the shootout winner to lift the Alberta Pandas to a 4-3 shootout victory over the Mount Royal Cougars.

Gasner, along with Amy Boucher and Hannah Olenyk scored in regulation for the Pandas. Sarah Weninger, Channia Alexander, and Shawni Rodeback were the goal scorers for Mount Royal.

Mount Royal got on the board early with a goal from Sarah Weninger at the 3:19 mark of the first. Kennedy Ganser set up Amy Boucher just two minutes later to square the match at one.

Alberta dominated the second period scoring twice to take a two-goal lead. Gasner got her second point of the game off a feed from Boucher and Poznikoff. Hannah Olynek extended the lead to 3-1 just three minutes later, to give the Pandas a comfortable lead heading into the intermission.

Channia Alexander got the Cougars back to within one with her first of the season, setup by veteran fifth year Sarah Weninger.

Mount Royal showed a lot of heart in the final five minutes of the game, swarming the Pandas' in their own zone. The Cougars' hard work paid off as they drew a penalty. On the power play, Weninger and Deschamps worked the puck to the point where Shawni Rodeback was able to score the tying goal, sending the game to overtime.

Despite numerous chances in both the first and second overtime, the game would require a shootout.

The first three shooters on each side missed and that set up Rachel Piitz. Piitz looked to deke and ripped a shot to give the Cougars the lead. Kennedy Gasner answered right back for the Pandas to send the shootout to the fifth round.

After three more shooters were stopped, Gasner found the puck on her stick with a chance to win it. This time she shot the puck and it fooled Pincott, giving Alberta the shootout victory.

Mount Royal falls to 1-4-0-2 with the overtime loss while Alberta moves to 1-1-2-3 with the victory.

The series will resume tomorrow evening in Edmonton at the Clare Drake Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 6pm MST.
