REGINA - For the second-straight game the Calgary Dinos scored and then retreated into a defensive shell as they took a 1-0 win over the University of Regina women's hockey team at The Co-operators Centre on Saturday.
Kelsey Roberts stole the show for the second time in as many nights, making 36 saves and holding the Cougars off the scoreboard for the weekend. Delaney Frey was the goal scorer for Calgary, as the Dinos only mustered eight shots on goal for the contest. A Cougar penalty had just expired and Frey threw a shot towards the net that floated over the glove of a screened Jane Kish.
Saturday afternoon's contest was eerily similar to Friday's game, as Calgary was content to go up a goal and then grind it out, killing seconds off the clock whenever possible. The final 30 seconds were wild, with Kish out of the Cougar net for an extra attacker. Regina had a number of chances on deflections and rebounds, but Roberts made a couple spectacular saves to conserve the lead.
The Cougars had a number of quality chances, with the best coming in the first period as Ireland South had an open cage from the slot but couldn't get a good shot off. Emma Waldenberger had a few scoring opportunities as well and Jaycee Magwood tallied as many shots as the entire Dino team.
Regina falls to 4-6-1-1 with the result, and will be back on the road next weekend for a series against Lethbridge. The Dinos move to 4-6-0-2 and will be back at home to host Manitoba.
