Puck Huskies back in gear with second straight win

SASKATOON - Eight different Saskatchewan Huskies scored in a 9-2 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns Saturday night in Saskatoon’s Rutherford Rink.

Michael Kaye led the way for the Huskies with two goals. Steven Gillen, Chad Greenan, Brennan Bosch, Chris Durand and Shaun Vey each had one goal and two assists on the night, while Brett Ward, Kyle Ross and Zach Sim all had two helpers each. Steven DaSilva and Jesse Zetariuk rounded out the goal scorers for the Huskies.

Andrew Courtney had both Lethbridge goals.

The Huskies opened the scoring quickly with Vey’s goal at 2:06 in the first period. It was the first of four the Huskies would score in the frame. Just over five minutes later Gillen added his on the power play at 6:40. The Pronghorns Courtney cut the lead in half breaking away on a short handed rush at 7:42 but the Huskies quickly regained the two goal lead with DaSilva scoring on the remaining power play time at 8:11. Greenan would add the Huskies final goal of the period at 17:53.

The Huskies added three more goals in the second period all on even strength - first Bosch at 3:54, Kaye at 10:55 and Zetariuk at 17:28.

Kaye added his second of the game at 10:55 in the third period before Courtney was able to give the Pronghorns their second goal of the game at 7:37. Durand added the Huskies ninth goal at 14:49 in the third.

Bowles made 11 saves before being replaced by back up Reese St Goddard at the end of the first period. St Goddard made 15 more saves for Lethbridge. Huskie backup goalie David Reekie made 36 saves in his Rutherford debut.

The Huskies will return to the road to face the Calgary Dinos next weekend, while the ‘Horns will return to Saskatchewan this time to take on the Regina Cougars.
