Game log: Saturday, September 9 – four-save shutout in 1-0 W vs. Calgary / Sunday, September 10 – six-save shutout in 0-0 draw vs. Lethbridge.

Third-year University of Alberta Pandas keeper Cassie Bazzarelli is the Canada West women’s third star following back-to-back shutouts this past weekend at Foote Field.

The veteran keeper was tremendous for the Pandas in their opening weekend matches, leading them to four of a possible six points against their provincial rivals.

Alberta’s season-opener was an incredibly challenging one, as they hosted the U SPORTS No. 7 Calgary Dinos. Despite being outplayed for most the game by the favourite Dinos, Bazzarelli kept the Pandas alive with some timely saves, allowing the Pandas to score the game-winner in the 65th minute.

The Edmonton, Alta. native backed up that performance with another strong one on Sunday, shutting out the visiting Lethbridge Pronghorns with another six saves, including a pair of highlight-reel stops in the first half.

Bazzarelli and the 1-0-1 Pandas will return to the pitch this weekend, as they visit the undefeated MacEwan Griffins and the UNBC Timberwolves.
