EDMONTON – When Clare Drake’s remarkable life is celebrated Thursday, June 14 at the Universiade Pavillion in Edmonton, everyone who was impacted by the legendary university men’s hockey coach will be able to experience the event.
The University of Alberta, where Drake spent 28 seasons coaching the Golden Bears, is set to webcast the event live on Canada West TV (free to view). The event, which will celebrate Drake’s life after his passing last month, is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. MT.

Over the course of his storied career at Alberta, Drake led the Bears to six national championships and 17 conference titles, retiring in 1989 as the winningest hockey coach in Canadian university history.
A member of the Order of Canada, an inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and a mentor to many NHL coaches and players, Drake started his Canada West career at the University of British Columbia in 1947. The Yorkton, Sask. native spent four years on the Thunderbirds hockey team between, while earning a kinesiology degree.
A legend in the hockey world, Drake impacted countless student-athletes, who have gone on to become leaders both in sport and their communities.
