VANCOUVER - Conor Morgan, Grant Shephard and Phil Jalalpoor led the way for the UBC Thunderbirds who cruised to a 118-65 victory over the visiting Trinity Western Spartans, Friday at the War Memorial Gym in Vancouver, B.C.

Morgan scored a game high 25 points and added 8 rebounds while Shephard and Jalalpoor chipped in with 19 points each helping the T-Birds improve to 5-2 on the season.

The 'Birds were able to execute early and often playing an up tempo brand of ball that had them leading 26-15 after the first quarter and increasing to a 58-33 advantage by halftime. Morgan and fifth-year guard Phil Jalalpoor shared the team high of 16 points each at the break.

Fourth-year guard Vartan Tanielian scored a team high 20 points and added six rebounds for the Spartans who remain winless on the season with an 0-7 record.

Morgan who hit 10 of his 16 field goal attempts including four three-pointers in just 21 minutes of action was pleased with his team's overall effort that saw six players hit double digits. "We got a lot of guys involved, we had a lot of guys that scored tonight it was good. I feel Phil (Jalalpoor) and I displayed some good leadership, which is the biggest thing we're trying to focus on this year. We were communicating a lot, all the way into the fourth quarter and it was effective."

The fifth-year forward out of Victoria was then asked if it was difficult to keep good playing habits in the second half when the score got a little lopsided.

"We need to try and get back to some more structured stuff tomorrow night. At times it kind of turned into street ball out there and we relied on our talent a bit more so I think tomorrow we'll get back to a little more structure."

The 'Birds have now reached the 100-point plateau in five of seven conference games and have earned three-straight wins. The Thunderbirds and Spartans renew acquaintances on Saturday night with a 7 p.m. PT tip off at War Memorial Gym.
