EDMONTON – Zak Zborosky has wasted no time making an impact for the Regina Cougars.

Through the first two months of the Canada West men’s hockey season, the first-year forward sits sixth in conference scoring with 17 points (8G-9A) – tops among conference rookies. Thanks to his tremendous start, the former Kootenay Ice has been named the WHL Graduate of the Month for November.

During six games in November, the former Regina Pat Canadian tallied four goals and six assists to help the Cougars to a pair of wins.

A Regina, Sask. native, Zborosky joined his hometown university this season after four full seasons in the WHL, where he played 252 games with the Ice before being traded to the Lethbridge Hurricanes midway through the 2016-17 season. In 262 regular season games, Zborosky registered 99 goals and 104 assists to go along with an additional 14 points in 30 career playoff games.

The Business Administration student was a major recruit for Regina head coach Todd Johnson’s squad, who sit three points back of the UBC Thunderbirds for the sixth and final playoff spot. Zborosky has been Regina’s top player thus far, as he’s reached the scoresheet on 17 of the Cougars’ 38 goals this season. He sits four points clear of Alberta’s Brandon Magee for the rookie scoring race at the midway point of Canada West’s 28-game schedule.

Regina wraps up the 2017 portion of the CW schedule this weekend, as the Cougars play the Saskatchewan Huskies in a home-and-home series Friday (Saskatoon) and Saturday (Regina). You can catch the action online by watching Canada West TV – the official streaming home of every CW men’s hockey game.
