To get you set for this weekend's Canada West women's hockey action, here are some storylines from around the conference in the latest edition of Ice Chips.

Dinos playoff hopes on the line against Bisons

Max Sturley, Dinos Communications Assistant

CALGARY - With six games remaining, and the season on the line, the University of Calgary Dinos will face off against the University of Manitoba Bisons this weekend, Jan 27-28, with both games being played at the Father David Bauer Arena.

After getting outscored 11-1 last weekend in two losses against the University of Alberta Pandas, the Dinos are looking for a bounce back weekend against the 3rd place Bisons. Even if the playoffs look out of reach, head coach Danielle Goyette expects nothing but a great effort from her team.
"We have a team that works hard and never quits," Goyette said.

"We're not going to quit until we have no other excuses. At the end of the day, even if, as a coach, we know that we aren't making the playoffs, we're not going to quit, because we're still building. We can't afford not to put everything on the ice and give everything we have."

Thunderbirds back home and looking to secure top spot in Canada West

Jeff Sargeant, UBC Sports Media

VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds (15-3-3-1) return home after two straight weekends on the road hosting the Lethbridge Pronghorns (3-15-1-3) Friday and Saturday, January 27th and 28th, at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.

It should be a welcome return to home ice for the T-Birds who have been dealing with a rash of injuries of late. Since UBC's historic 15 game win streak came to an end earlier this month, the 'Birds have three wins in their last six games but have points in three straight.

Mount Royal set to face streaking Pandas

Connor Hood, Bears and Pandas Athletics

EDMONTON - For the second-consecutive week, the 12-4-3-3 University of Alberta Pandas hockey team will battle a southern Alberta foe, as they battle the 8-10-1-3 Mount Royal Cougars this weekend in a home-and-home series.

The Pandas will host the Cougars on Friday night at Clare Drake Arena, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m., before the series shifts to Calgary on Saturday.

REGINA - The University of Regina women's hockey team will play the Saskatchewan Huskies in a home-and-home set this weekend, as the Cougars trail the Huskies by just three points for fourth place in the Canada West standings.

The Cougars enter the weekend at 9-10-3-0 after splitting a pair of games at Mount Royal, falling 2-1 on Friday but rebounding for a 3-2 shootout win on Saturday afternoon. Kylee Kupper scored on Friday before Lilla Carpenter-Boesch and Kylie Gavelin had goals in regulation on Saturday. Emma Waldenberger scored the winner while Morgan Baker didn't allow a goal in the shootout.
