SASKATOON - With a comeback 3-2 (29-27, 18-25, 13-25, 25-20, 19-17) win over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon at the PAC, the Brandon University Bobcats women's volleyball team finally found the win column.

Entering the weekend losing all six matches to start the Canada West season, Brandon is now 1-6. Saskatchewan, who was riding a four match win streak, drops to 4-3.

After Brandon won the first set in extra points at 29-27, the Huskies took command in the second and third games winning 25-18 and 25-13 respectively. The Bobcats regrouped for a 25-20 win in the fourth set to force a fifth.

Both teams saw leads evaporate in the deciding set. The Bobcats opened the fifth on a 6-1 run, before the Huskies tied the set at seven on the strength of two Emmalyn Copping aces. The Huskies then held a two point lead for most of the rest of the set. The teams traded points until a Taylor Annala attack sailed long and a block by Jodie Baker and Carmen Ross sealed the Brandon 19-17 win.

Nikala Majewski powered the Bobcats to the win with a match-high 21 kills. Courtney Roberts added another six, while Gillian Leech was strong defensively with 16 digs.

Copping led the Huskies with 17 kills and 11 digs on the night. Three more Huskies recorded double digits. Annala tallied 11 kills and 13 digs, while Marguerite Ferguson and Emily Humbert each recorded 10 kills.

The two teams will battle again Saturday night at the PAC. Match time is 6 p.m.
