REGINA, Sask. – Cassidy Kinsella's match-high 18 kills led MacEwan to a three-set victory over the Regina Cougars in Canada West women's volleyball action on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Kinsella had just three errors on her 33 attacks, giving her a .455 hitting percentage to go along with a team-high nine digs as she fell just short of a double-double.

MacEwan pulled out a 25-23 victory in the first set to take an early lead in the match. The Griffins called a timeout after three straight Cougar points drew the teams level at 22, and Kinsella had a kill and a service ace on back-to-back plays to go up 24-22. MacEwan converted on its second attempt at set point, getting a Kate Rozendaal kill to finish it off.

The second set was all MacEwan as the Griffins jumped out to a 12-3 lead and cruised to a 25-18 win to take a commanding two-set lead. The third set saw the Cougars take a lead into the technical timeout, but after that MacEwan reeled off six consecutive points with Rozendaal serving and never looked back. MacEwan's 25-19 win in the third clinched the Griffins' fifth Canada West victory of the season.

Fourth-year setter Claire McLoughlin finished with 25 assists as MacEwan hit .265 as a team in the win. Kinsella accounted for exactly half of MacEwan's 36 kills in the match, while Rozendaal added six kills and McLoughlin and Carly Weber both chipped in with four.

Diana Lumbala led the Cougars with 12 kills, while Molly Wade-Cummings had eight kills and hit .500 for the U of R. Jenna Krahn finished with seven kills, seven digs, and three aces, while Leah Sywanyk had a strong game defensively with a match-leading 14 digs.

The two teams will finish off the weekend series on Saturday night at the CKHS. Match time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
