SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies closed the Canada West women's volleyball season with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-23) win over the visiting Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Saturday night on Ron & Jane Graham Court at the PAC in Saskatoon.

Fifth-year athletes Emily Humbert and Emmalyn Copping led the Huskies in the victory. Humbert recorded eight kills and six service aces in the match, while Copping recorded 13 kills and six digs. Emily Koshinsky led the team with eight digs in the match.

Kendra Finch led the WolfPack offence on the night with a team-best 11 kills and six digs, while Alina Sopizhuk tallied five kills and five digs. Carly Gunter recorded a match-high 12 digs.

With the win, Saskatchewan finishes the season at 8-16. Thompson Rivers, who will advance to the Canada West postseason, finishes at 13-11.

Midway through the first set, the Huskies took a six-point lead over the WolfPack. But TRU didn't give up and went on a 4-2 to run to get back in the game. An Emily Humbert service run put Saskatchewan back ahead by five. The WolfPack couldn't get back in the set and a long TRU attack ended the set 25-21.

With the Huskies ahead 11-10, another Humbert service run that included three aces scored Saskatchewan 11 straight points. The WolfPack couldn't recover and the Huskies won the set 25-13.

Saskatchewan had a 20-16 lead late in the deciding set when four straight points by TRU including a Finch ace tied the set at 20. Trading points, Finch once again tied the set at 23 with an attack the Huskies' couldn't dig up. Humbert ended the match on the next two plays with an attack and an ace 25-23.

Thompson Rivers will face the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver in a Canada West quarter-final series next weekend.
