Game log: Saturday, Sept. 8 – goal on seven shots in 1-0 home win vs. Calgary / Sunday, Sept. 9 – two goals on six shots in 3-1 home win vs. Mount Royal.

Continuing his hot start to the 2018 Canada West season, sophomore Golden Bears striker Easton Ongaro led the Bears to a sweep of their provincial foes with a three-goal weekend.

Ongaro’s three goals and 13 shots over two games vaults him into the Canada West lead in both categories, as he now has four goals and 22 shots in five conference matches. He is also tied with teammate Ajeej Sarkaria and Saskatchewan Huskie Nikolas Baikas for the conference points lead with six.

The Edmonton native scored the game-winner in the 88th minute in the Bears win over Calgary on Saturday, securing the Bears fourth consecutive victory. He was even more impressive in their win over Mount Royal the following afternoon, scoring his first goal in the seventh minute, before adding another game-winner off a free kick in the 68th minute.

Ongaro and the undefeated Golden Bears will remain at Foote Field this weekend, as they host the Victoria Vikes and Fraser Valley Cascades.

Game log: Saturday, Oct. 14 – two goals in 5-1 W @ MacEwan / Sunday, Oct. 15 – goal and an assist in 5-0 W vs. MacEwan.

Rookie University of Alberta Golden Bears soccer forward Easton Ongaro is the Canada West third star following his four-point performance in a weekend sweep of the MacEwan Griffins.

Ongaro led the Bears with three goals and four points, as the Bears earned a pair of decisive wins over their cross-town foes this past weekend. The pair of wins also clinched the Prairie Division for Alberta, who now own a 9-1-2 record in 2017.

Despite playing just 54 minutes on Saturday, Ongaro was an offensive catalyst for the Bears. The rookie Bear scored two goals 14 minutes apart in the first half, the second and third goals of his young career.

Ongaro was just as dynamic on Sunday at Foote Field, finishing off a nice feed from Ajeej Sarkaria in the box for his third goal of the weekend, before setting up Sarkaria for his third assist of the season.

Ongaro now sits third overall on the Bears with seven points in 10 conference games. The conference-leading Bears will be back in action this weekend, as they host Mount Royal and Calgary to Foote Field.
