Draw announced for 2024 CW Basketball Championships

Feb. 16, 2024 - Two tournaments. 24 teams. One unforgettable week of basketball.

The draw is officially set for the 2024 Canada West's men's and women's basketball championships, which tip-off next Wednesday in Abbotsford and Winnipeg.

On the women's side, the host University of the Fraser Valley Cascades enjoyed a strong 17-3 regular season campaign and will look to use a raucous UFV Athletic Centre crowd to their advantage. The Cascades have earned a first round bye as the No. 4 seed and will open with a quarter-final contest on Thursday night at 6 p.m. PT against the winner of Wednesday's clash between Manitoba and Alberta.

The Saskatchewan Huskies enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed after an incredible 19-1 regular season campaign, while No. 2 UBC and No. 3 Calgary also received byes to the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, all three Manitoba based teams will be counting on strong local support at the men's competition, which will be hosted by the University of Manitoba at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.

No. 8 Brandon opens on Wednesday with a play-in round match against Saskatchewan at 3 p.m. CT. The winner of that match will move on to a quarter-final date with two-time defending conference champion Victoria on Thursday at 3 p.m. CT.

The IGAC will be electric on Thursday night with No. 3 Winnipeg and No. 4 Manitoba both featured in the quarter-final night session. The Wesmen will play the winner of Regina/UFV at 6 p.m. CT, while the host Bisons will take on the victor of UBC/UNBC at 8 p.m. CT.

Semifinal action for both tournaments will take place on Saturday, Feb. 24, with the gold and bronze medal games set for Sunday, Feb. 25.

The top 12 teams in the regular season advanced to each championship based on the league standings using win/loss record. The teams were then reseeded based on their RPI ranking.
